More About Lady Mae Soft Heart

We have all heard a dog person talk about their “heart dog.” She doesn’t rush in but very quickly creates a heartfelt connection with her presence. It won’t be long at all before you look over at her and think, yeah… this is exactly who I needed. Soft eyes, gentle presence, and a quiet companionship.

Go watch Lady Mae Lovebug on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this sweet girl.

https://youtu.be/aP-H0zieIA4

Lady Mae is estimated to be around 7 years old and weighs 37 lbs. Breed-wise, we’ll say maybe a border collie mix… but as always, rescue rules apply. What we can say with full confidence is that she is a gentle, affectionate, deeply people-loving girl with a low, easygoing energy that makes her an absolute dream to live with.

She is currently fostered in a loving home with five other dogs and three cats, and she’s doing beautifully with the flow and structure in place. Her foster shares that she is the easiest dog in her home, saying seems like she clearly understands how to coexist and move through a multi-pet household without chaos. She’s not looking to stir things up, she’s looking for her spot… preferably somewhere soft, close to you, and ideally with a hand resting on her.

With people, Lady Mae is everything you could hope for. She has shown us confidence, affectionate, and completely at ease with handling. She soaks up affection and is so easy going about touch, we joke that she truly thinks all touch is good touch, its all love! And she doesn’t reserve her love only for the ladies. Her foster shared that Lady Mae meets men with the same warmth and openness, having an immediate connection with her brother during their first meeting. Simply, she feels steady and safe and she is here to love and be loved, fully, whole-heartedly.

Her energy level is low, truly companion-level. She’s not asking for long hikes or big adventures. Think short strolls, a little wandering in the yard, and then back inside to settle in near her people. She walks beautifully on leash, handles new environments without stress, and takes life exactly as it comes… calm, steady, and unbothered.

With other dogs, Lady Mae is socially savvy but selective about her space. She knows how to greet, she gives appropriate corrections, and she communicates clearly when she’s had enough. She coexists well, especially with respectful dogs who understand her cues, but she is not interested in play and would be happiest either as an only dog or with a calm, easygoing companion who doesn’t push her boundaries.
Her one area that will need thoughtful management is food. Lady Mae takes her meals seriously and does not want to share. Same! She will need to be fed separately and supervised around treats. This is already being managed successfully in her foster home, and with a little structure, it’s very workable. With people, she is completely safe and allows handling even while eating.

She lives with cats now and does well with them, even the fussy old lady of the crew. It is easy to imagine that this would carry into the home, especially with calm, dog-savvy cats who will match her with a mutual respect.

Lady Mae is what a lot of people would call an old soul in a perfectly sized, very lovable package. She’s not here for chaos or competition. She’s here for connection, for quiet companionship, and for that steady, everyday kind of love.

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate, low-key best friend, Lady Mae is ready to take her place right beside you.

Apply today to welcome Lady Mae home… she’s a true keeper!
