Gator - Pit Bull Terrier Dog for Adoption in Effingham, Illinois

MEET GATOR!
This sweet boy came to us as an owner surrender after his family realized they just weren’t the right fit for him anymore.
And yes... somebody cropped this poor boy’s ears somewhere along the way. But Gator doesn’t seem to know he’s supposed to look tough, because underneath those ears is a sweet, cautious guy who is simply trying to figure out this big change in his life.
Gator is a neutered male, on the smaller side at around 45 pounds. His previous owner said he was very close with their female dog and also lived with a cat without issues.
When Gator first came in, he was understandably nervous. With dogs barking all around him, he was cautious and unsure, but he did not growl or try to go after anyone. He was simply taking everything in.
He has reportedly had a few accidents in the house, so his new family should be prepared to give him a little patience and a refresher on house training. Consistency, routine and some grace can go a long way.
Gator is not currently at the shelter, so anyone interested in meeting him will need to follow the shelter’s normal application process rather than stopping by to see him.
We’re still getting to know Gator, but so far we see a sweet boy who deserves a soft landing and a family willing to give him a little time to settle in.
