Leo the Love Bug is Available for Adoption!

Leo is a happy go lucky and friendly guy. He doesn't know a stranger! He is extremely dog friendly and loves to play, even if it means throwing a toy for himself to catch. We don't know if he is cat friendly, but he hasn't shown any reactivity to squirrels or birds in the yard. He is a low maintenance guy, as he is house and crate trained, doesn't whine or cry, and is happy in or out of a crate.

He is wonderful on a leash, great in the car and likes to play with toys and in the water. Sadly, we do believe someone was quite mean to him at one point in his life, as if you move too quickly, he will cower and he is afraid of loud noises. This doesn't keep him from being extremely sweet and affectionate though! He doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

He knows sit and shake and is very treat motivated, so is easy to teach new things (as long as he isn't too excited about getting a treat to listen, haha). Before he was rescued, he was very thin, so it is beneficial for him to use a slow feeder, so he doesn't gulp down his food. He is still a pup and learning not to be mouthy when he's excited.

Leo is approximately 1 year old, 50 pounds and fully vetted: neutered, up to date on vaccinations, preventatives, and comes with a registered microchip.

Leo does have a malformation in his front leg. After several sets of x-rays and a radiologist referral, it was found that his leg broke while he was still growing and it healed without being set correctly. It does not cause him any pain and he uses his leg as if nothing is wrong. It is likely he will have arthritis in that leg, as he gets older. We discussed a full reconstructive surgery with an orthopedic specialist, but given the break has fully healed and he has full use without pain, surgery was not recommended at this time.

OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN TEXAS BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information.

Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Raising The Bar Animal rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).

Our out of state adoption fee is $300 plus transport (varies by location). This fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a registered microchip, spay/neuter for pets 6 months & older, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old. All dogs will be current on flea/heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed and a certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of departure.
