Merritt - Pit Bull Terrier and Hound Dog for Adoption in Austin, Minnesota

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Merritt came to the shelter on 9/27/2026 with his littermates, Marisol and Maybellene, after all three puppies were said to have been found as strays in a rural area in the middle of September. They all look to be pit bull mixes, maybe with other breeds like boxer and hound, and we're thinking they are around 3 months old. We will have a better idea of their approximate ages after they go to the vet on October 6th for their exams, rabies shots, and microchips. In addition to his rabies, Merritt will receive at least 2 distemper/parvo vaccinations, and his $150 adoption fee includes all of his vet work (microchip, shots, and neuter surgery when old enough).

Merritt is a happy young dog, but he will need basic training in all areas. This requires a committed and patient home in which he won't be left alone for long hours. He should do well with other dogs and is young enough to learn to interact well with cats. Like his siblings, there's a good chance Merritt will grow up to be a large adult dog because of what his breed mix appears to be. Kids 5 and up would be best as he is still a puppy who has quite a bit to learn.

We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.
