DESCRIPTION

Meet Cooper!

A devoted six-and-a-half-year-old American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in West Milford, NJ, whose big heart and brindle beauty shine as brightly as his playful spirit.

Cooper is the definition of a loyal companion! He’s spent the last five years as a true adventure buddy riding shotgun on road trips, chasing lacrosse balls across the yard, hiking forest trails, and gleefully splashing into lakes for a refreshing swim. Whether he’s curling up beside you for a cozy evening or gazing at you with those expressive eyes that ask, “What’s next?”, Cooper thrives on connection.

At around 70 pounds, he’s a strong and sturdy guy, but don’t let his build fool you, his favorite place is wherever you are, preferably with his head resting gently on your lap! Cooper is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and knows all the basics like sit, stay, paw (with either paw!), and a picture-perfect fetch routine that ends with the ball at your feet every time!

While Cooper is friendly with adults and enjoys meeting new people, he can feel uneasy around very young children, especially those under five. Sudden movements, high energy, or unfamiliar behaviors may make him uncomfortable, as he hasn’t had much exposure to little ones. For this reason, Cooper is happiest in a calm, adult household where he can soak up love and routine without the stress of other pets or young children.

While Cooper has had a few hurdles, like managing allergies with monthly Cytopoint injections and bouncing back like a champ from ACL surgeries on both rear legs, he’s full of zest and still moves with confidence and energy. His skin needs regular care, including weekly baths, but he’s used to the routine and stays in great shape with regular vet visits.

Cooper would be compatible with a caregiver who can provide structure, patience, and plenty of time together. He thrives in a one-on-one environment where he doesn’t have to compete for attention or resources. Cooper is reactive toward other dogs, particularly in high-stimulation settings or when food and toys are nearby. He has displayed possessive behaviors that can escalate quickly in the presence of other animals, making a pet-free home the most supportive and stress-free setting for him. Walks in quiet areas and avoidance of dog-heavy spaces will help him feel safe and secure.

His playful energy, love for car rides, and irresistible snuggles make him a remarkable companion. Could your heart and home be the next chapter in Cooper’s journey?

If you're interested in providing Cooper with a loving home, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information on adopting him! Please note that Cooper will remain with his current family until a suitable new home is found for him.
