A spirited two-year-old American Pitbull Terrier currently in Albuquerque, NM, whose essence is a vibrant blend of loyalty, goofiness, and heartfelt snuggles wrapped in a tan and white coat.

Maximus is the ultimate companion for anyone seeking both an adventure partner and a cozy couch snuggler! He’s an all-star when it comes to toys, especially the squeaky ones, and approaches each new plaything like a joyful puzzle to solve. An enthusiastic runner, Maximus thrives with active caregivers who can match his energy and joy for the outdoors. Whether it’s a long walk, a game of fetch, or simply exploring the backyard, he’s happiest when his legs are moving and his heart is connected to yours!

Maximus is crate trained, house trained, and knows the basics like “sit.” He’s currently polishing up on other commands through positive reinforcement. Though he experiences separation anxiety when left alone, he’ll willingly go into his crate, he just prefers when his people are close. Maximus is a deeply loyal boy who flourishes with structure, routine, and lots of human connection. His sensitivity and affection shine through in every nuzzle, tail wag, and heartfelt gaze.

He’s friendly with people and has had sweet interactions with elementary-aged children. When it comes to other dogs, Maximus can be selective. While he's shown positive interactions with people, Maximus has had challenges living with other dogs. Following a period of significant life changes (including a household move and the arrival of a new baby) he became increasingly reactive and protective, leading to escalating tension and multiple fights with the resident dog, including one unprovoked incident while all dogs were resting calmly. Though his guardian has worked with a trainer for the past month, the behavior hasn’t resolved. Because of this, Maximus would do best as the only pet in his next home, with a guardian who can provide him with consistent enrichment, patient guidance, and lots of affection.

What’s the most endearing thing about Maximus? His oversized personality paired with an even bigger heart! He’s the kind of companion who makes a house feel like home and reminds you daily that love is loud, silly, and deeply loyal.
