Earl - hospice - ME - Pekingese Dog for Adoption in Bryan, Texas

Peekaboo! EARL has officially been discharged from ICU! This 16 year old peke truly was on the brink of death.... He was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, on the verge of heat stroke, you name it. His fur was matted to the skin with raw and angry wounds underneath, his eye was bulging and crusted over, and he's had such raging ear infections for so long that the ears are almost swollen shut. His owner told animal control that he had been keeping him out in the garage just waiting for him to die.

But.

Then he was rescued.

His temp foster gave him round the clock care of food, water, and love and he showed us he was a fighter. He appeared potty trained and had the will to LIVE!!! He gobbled food down like no tomorrow!!

He was in the ICU with kidney levels that we thought for sure would have us making a tough decision, but here we are!!

He was hospitalized for 3-4 days with IV fluids, kidney support, kidney food, antibiotics, ear treatment and eye treatment, and today he was well enough to go home!! His kidney levels made a FABULOUS turn around!! Still elevated but miles better than they were.

We still consider him a hospice case. His kidney disease is still here, and he's still blind and deaf. But by God, that does not mean we throw in the towel on him! He is totally content eating huge meals, napping, and walking around. He does have a permanent head tilt as well.

Is that a laundry list of medical issues? Yes and no. Yes, he's lost vision and hearing and is 16. Okayyyyyy, and??? Yes he requires a kidney diet and lifetime supplements. Okay! Everything else is just being old. He's low maintenance, low energy, and happy to just be scootin' and tootin' around!

Earl is a FIGHTER! He came back from the edge and now deserves the cushiest hospice chapter ever!!!
