Teddy and Tilly are a highly bonded pair of 8-year-old brown Newfoundland dogs. The previous owner adopted them from separate locations back east 3 years ago when they were 5 years old. They have lived outdoors for most of the last 3 years and unfortunately in severe neglect circumstances most of the last year before being rescued. Both are sweet dogs with wonderful Newfy temperaments and find comfort staying together after developing a strong social bond in adverse circumstances. They are now safe together in foster care, beginning the next chapter of their lives with the need for an understanding adopting family who can offer loving attention, patience, and kindness. They appreciate gentle human social contact and Tilly show appreciation with a couple of gentle dog kisses and Teddy likes burrowing his head into you showing his appreciation, as well as enjoying gentle belly rubs. Tilly can be skittish at times and runs to the side of Teddy. It is possible they could learn to be indoor dogs with training, Initially in foster, they do feel safer with a smaller fenced outdoor area and a large doghouse to use together.
Teddy at time of rescue was almost completely matted and had to be fully shaved down. He received vaccines and needs to wear a coat to stay warm until his fur grows back in a few months. He may have a neurological condition which is causing severe laxity of his hocs (ankles), so that he walks with an uneven gait slowly. Additional workup to figure this out is planned. As his health improves, his weight will likely increase a bit from his 90 lbs.
Tilly needed a partial shave of her back and was able to keep most of her lovely hair. She is overweight at 123 lbs and has started a diet. She has some dental disease but is able to eat kibble. She finds great comfort being close to Teddy and will follow him.
These two sweet senior dogs with an unbreakable bond need a loving and understanding forever home able to take them as a bonded pair.
