Meet Arlo.
Arlo is one of those dogs who makes you stop and think about just how far a dog can come. He was rescued from a large hoarding situation in Texas, where he was one of approximately 50 animals living in extremely overcrowded conditions. Arlo was found confined to a crate so severely soiled and filled with feces and bedding that he could not even stand up. His rescuers stepped in and helped him begin the long process of rebuilding his strength, muscle tone, and ability to function normally.
Now, Arlo is in Iowa and learning what a different life can look like.
Arlo is a shy, gentle boy who needs people to slow down and let him set the pace. If you move too quickly, he may run away. But if you sit back, give him a little time, and let him come to you, you get to see the sweet dog underneath that initial nervousness. Once he feels safe, Arlo enjoys being petted and settles down surprisingly quickly.
Arlo gets along with others and is good with kids. He keeps his kennel clean and enjoys a good butt scratch. He is going to need a home that understands the importance of structure, routine, patience, and allowing him to build confidence at his own pace. Kids in his new home should understand that Arlo may need a little extra time to feel comfortable and should allow him to approach them rather than rushing toward him.
Arlo has already overcome more than any dog should have to. He went from a life where he could barely move to learning how to walk, explore, and trust people again. Now, we want to find him the quiet, safe home where he can continue to discover just how good life can be.
Arlo may not be the dog who runs up to greet you right away. He may need you to wait for him. But when he finally chooses to walk over and accept that first gentle pet, you will know you have earned something pretty special.
Could you be the patient person Arlo has been waiting for?
