DESCRIPTION

Rome might just be the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. This handsome two-year-old has had a rough year. After being rescued as a stray, he has been in shelter care since January. Understandably, Rome can be nervous around adult humans, but he has made incredible progress since coming into his foster home. With patience and encouragement, there's no doubt he'll continue to grow braver every day.

Rome absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident, well-adjusted canine sibling to show him the ropes. His personality truly shines when he's playing with his foster sister and new friends at the dog park. He enjoys everything from play bows and zoomies to games of chase. Rome will play happily for a while, then wander off to enjoy a little alone time before returning a few minutes later to join the fun all over again.

There isn't an aggressive bone in Rome's body. His foster sister's favorite game is Hold On To Rome's Leg. While we tell her to let go, Rome just looks over as if to say, “It's okay. I'm fine—she's just a baby.” He is also perfectly happy to let her steal from his breakfast or dinner bowl.

Rome also enjoys walks, although he can be easily spooked by unexpected noises and movements, such as a garbage-can lid slamming, birds suddenly flying out of a tree, a loud engine, or sprinklers turning on unexpectedly. Because he is still gaining confidence outdoors, he'll need a very patient walker and a family willing to help him feel safe. A securely fenced yard would be ideal, giving him space to run, decompress, and take care of business.

At home, Rome enjoys gentle pets, snuggles, and being brushed with a grooming mitt. His crate is his safe space, and he'll even take himself there when he feels overwhelmed, although he needs it less each day. While he is still learning to trust people, Rome loves a good cuddle with someone he knows and feels comfortable with.

We've continued calling him Rome, but his big ears and nervous, endearing personality bring Dobby the house elf to mind. We've even offered him a few socks, but he hasn't taken us up on them yet! We hope the right family will give Rome the patience, love, and guidance he needs to become the brave and free-spirited dog he was meant to be.

Rome has a gentle heart and is more than ready for the loving forever home he deserves. Could that home be yours?

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
