Cash - Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Hampton, Virginia

Last night, Cash got to do something every puppy dreams about. He got to go to school. Now, if you've ever met a seven-month-old puppy, you know this is a life stage generally characterized by questionable decision-making and a firm belief that every object/human body part is a toy. Puppies are not known for self-control.
Cash, however, didn't get that memo.
One of the many perks of having the world's best dog trainer (in our completely unbiased opinion) conducting classes at Animal Aid is that some of our shelter dogs get to attend, too. A wonderful volunteer brought Cash to a group class last night, where he was by far the youngest dog in attendance.
He was also one of the stars.
Cash was polite, respectful, friendly with both people and other dogs. He walked beautifully on-leash. He paid attention and learned quickly. He mastered every task that was asked of him. While other dogs were busy being distracted by the fact that they were around other dogs, Cash was busy proving that his brain is operating at a very high level for a creature who still thinks leaves are fascinating.
Watching him was amazing.
It was also a little heartbreaking.
Because underneath all that intelligence and eagerness was a reminder that Cash is still going back to a kennel at the end of the day. He's a puppy bursting with potential, desperate to learn, desperate to connect, desperate to belong to someone. He wants adventures. He wants a family to impress.
Mostly, he wants someone to be proud of him.
Cash would thrive with an active person or family willing to invest a little time in helping a young dog learn how wonderful the world can be. He's energetic, curious, affectionate, and ready for every hike, walk, road trip, backyard game, and couch nap that comes next.
