Shelter Assessment:
Dog Meet and Greet and Required
Kid Friendly
Sweet Dog
Good with kids 5,7,11 y.o.
Needs work with potty training
Walks very well on leash. Little to no pulling.
Allowed full body handling. Face, mouth, ears, tail, paws, belly, etc...
Was reluctant to interact at first but warmed up after a short walk and some pets.
Seemed a little bit fearful of the kennel experience but not abnormally so.
Probably just needs a little reassurance and some decompression time to acclimate to kennel life.
Additional notes: Marshall appears to be significantly under-socialized with both dogs and people. He is a very sweet dog but remains fearful both inside and outside of his kennel. He benefits from slow introductions, allowing him to approach and build confidence at his own pace. Marshall will need a patient adopter who respects his boundaries and gives him the time and space to gain confidence. If placed with another dog, he would do best with a calm, socially appropriate companion who can read and respect his body language without overwhelming him
Knows sit
Treats gently
Preferred to curl up in the corner next to me rather than explore
Very accepting of pets and melts into them
Lets you touch him all over
very good for vetting
slightly interested in squeaky toys
Marshall is current on shots, licensed, and microchipped. All dogs over 6 months have been heartworm tested, and all dogs are treated monthly for fleas/ticks and are on Heartworm prevention (NexGard PLUS). All pets are spayed/neutered prior to a finalized adoption. All our dogs receive a behavior assessment before being placed for adoption to determine initial behaviors towards people and other dogs in the shelter environment. If you have questions about an animal please come to the shelter during our operating hours or email AnimalServices@bcohio.gov.

Breed listings: Please note that Animal Friends recognizes current research showing that the large majority of breed guesses on shelter dogs are inaccurate and that only a small percentage of an animals genetics make up their physical appearance. People visiting the shelter in person or viewing animals on our website will note that all of our dogs are labeled as Mixed Breeds unless they have been DNA tested or are surrendered to the shelter with paperwork. Any potential breeds listed here on PetFinder are not assumed to be accurate and are merely a starting point for people to be able to search for a dog who may visually resemble a breed they are interested in. We feel that the best matches are made based on a dogs individual personality and recommend families come meet our animals in person. Please reach out with any questions!
