Kala / 3 years old / Female / Mixed Breed / 37 lbs / Rescued from Canine Haven Rescue / Currently fostered in Toronto
Good with cat / Good with kids / Selective with other dogs in tight spaces / House-trained and settles well in the home
Kala has the sweetest, most soulful eyes you’ve ever seen—large chocolate pools that just melt your heart instantly. But her most famous feature might just be her adorable "begging dance," where she plants her paws right on you and asks you to hold her hand so she can wiggle away in pure joy. Because of her enthusiastic "happy tail," she will also often get very excited and thump it happily against surrounding objects! Behind those expressive eyes is a total sweetheart who combines the best of being a social butterfly and a devoted “Velcro” dog.
This loving girl is an absolute joy in the home. In her foster’s condo, Kala has a wonderfully calm and quiet demeanor, preferring to spend her day right by your side, lying on or next to you while you go about your day. She is wonderfully patient and tolerant (sometimes excited!) with children, loves approaching people for attention, and is indifferent to cats, making her an easy fit for a multi-pet or family home.
Kala has a low-to-moderate energy level, matching her easygoing style. She enjoys her daily walks, though some days she will let you know she has had enough by gently leading you right back to the house. When the mood strikes, she loves getting her runs in while chasing squirrels outdoors, showing off a fun little burst of energy.
She is house-trained and non-destructive when left alone for a few hours, and polite in the home. She can be a bit nervous on evening walks because her night vision is not very strong, and she can also be reactive in tight spaces like elevators when she sees other dogs. Working with her by using positive reinforcement to help train her she is safe will be important. She loves car rides, though she can get a bit eager and try to jump into any open car doors. When on a car ride, Kala appreciates someone sitting in the back with her.
Kala is working on her greeting manners! She gets so excited when people return or when meeting strangers that she can jump up, spin around, and accidentally scratch, so she is practicing keeping all four paws on the floor. She also needs her food soaked in water to a gravy-like consistency so she can enjoy her meals. While crate training was started, it is still a work in progress that her new family can continue to help her master.
Her foster family describes her as deeply affectionate, loyal, and endlessly loving. She is a true shadow who will never leave your side if you don't want her to.
If you’re looking for a devoted cuddle bug who will greet you with a happy tail wag, a sweet dance, and endless loyalty, Kala may be your perfect match.
