Introducing Miss Boo!

Boo caught our eye earlier this year when she was a pregnant stray at Clayton County AC. The shelter called her Sadie. She came into rescue and foster mom started calling her Boo (because she's big, black and boo-tiful!) and the name stuck.

Boo had 9 sweet babies and has been an excellent mama. Now that babies are finding their homes, Boo is ready for her next chapter.

Unfortunately, she tested heartworm positive and is just beginning treatment. We are looking for an adopt or medical foster while she completes treatment. Treatment is covered by the rescue.

Boo is a very sweet girl. She's always happy. Doesn't matter if she's paying in the yard, going for a walk, a car ride, or just hanging with her people, she's a happy girl. She loves water - that's the lab in her. We think she's a lot lab mixed with other things, too. She is about 75-80 lbs and about 5 years old.

Boo is friendly with the other dogs in her foster home. She would probably like having other dogs in the home to run and play with, but being an only dog isn't a dealbreaker. A fenced yard to run around in would be a plus. We are thinking cats are going to be a no for Boo.

Boo is very friendly meeting new people and all the ladies at the vet's office are just smitten with her.

About Heartworm treatment-

The first 60 days of heartworm treatment is easy. One pill twice a day for 30 days. And no strenuous activity (long walks, hiking, etc) followed by 30 days of letting the meds do thier job... The first 60 days is a great time to get to know Boo, spend some time getting to know her amazing personality and just enjoying her company. Day 60 is her first injection. She will feel gross, might have some discomfort. She will need crate rest and leash walking. No jumping, running or anything that might elevate her heart rate. This will continue for about 3-4 weeks and then on day 90 &91 she will get her next rounds of injections and start again with more crate rest and leash walking.

It is important that her person/family spend some time with her during those first 60 days, to see what her normal is, so if during treatment something abnormal happens, they can recognize. She could start coughing, become lethargic, swelling, soreness, labored or rapid breathing, lack of appetite, and/or fever.
