Owen is a 10-year-old senior gentleman who has discovered that life is much better when it includes a soft bed, a loving human, plenty of naps, and someone to follow around. This sweet boy came to us as a stray from an LA shelter. He was understandably nervous when he first arrived and needed some extra care, but he has settled beautifully into his new life and is showing us more of his personality every day.
If there’s one thing Owen has mastered, it’s the art of relaxation. He is incredibly mellow and loves nothing more than being near his person for a good nap. He takes his job as a professional napper very seriously—in fact, Owen has been known to doze off right on the veterinary exam table! His easygoing nature makes him a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate dog.
Owen has adapted well to sharing his home with three cats. They’ve been curious about their new roommate, but Owen is largely unimpressed. As far as he’s concerned, they’re just part of the furniture!
He has been a true trooper while getting the care he needed, including baths for his skin and multiple eye drops to help get his eyes healthy. He definitely believes treats and attention make every medical procedure better—and honestly, we can’t argue with him.
Owen loves going for walks and meeting the neighborhood pups. He enjoys taking his time, exploring his surroundings, and smelling ALL the smells. Owen is blind in one eye and has limited vision, so his person needs to be mindful on walks and help him navigate curbs and obstacles safely. With a little guidance, he happily enjoys getting out and exploring the world at his own pace.
At home, Owen is content to simply be part of whatever you’re doing. He’ll lay on his mat while you work, supervise in the kitchen, and follow you from room to room. He doesn’t need to be the center of attention—he just wants to be close to his person.
We’ve also been working with Owen on house training and crate training for nighttime, and he’s making wonderful progress. Considering he’s a senior who has been accustomed to having free rein, he’s doing an especially good job learning his new routines. He’s even figuring out how to use the dog door when nature calls!
One of the most rewarding things about Owen is watching him change day by day. As he becomes more comfortable and realizes he’s safe, we’re seeing more of the sweet dog underneath those initial nerves.
Owen may be a senior, but he still has so much love to give. He’s gentle, mellow, curious, and happiest when he can simply be near his person. If your idea of the perfect companion involves leisurely walks, quiet afternoons, a loyal shadow, and plenty of couch naps, Owen may be the gentleman you’ve been waiting for.
Owen is ready for the next chapter of his life—and this time, he deserves a forever home where he can finally relax, be loved, and enjoy his golden years.
