Luther arrived at NCCR on 9/18/26, transferred locally after being found as a stray. He is an approximately 1-2 year old neutered male retriever mix, weighing in at about 53 Ibs. He is believed to also have some hound in his mix - he loves to sniff everything and investigate all the smells he can find. He also has a BIG booming bark to alert you to cars or people approaching the building - it's a great deterent to unwanted intruders! He was a little anxious about meeting new people, but he is coming around with some TLC and learning that meeting new friends can be a great thing!
Luther has definitely had some training previously. He already knows some basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and seems to be house trained. He enjoys playing with his toys, but his favorite thing is cuddling up for petting. He is hoping to find a kind and loving forever family to call his own soon!
*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he is a great fit.
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you.
Not sure if you are ready to adopt? Please consider applying to foster Luther, which will lead to a happily ever after adoption, either with you, or the family you help get him ready for! Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Learn more and apply on our website, under the “Get Involved” tab.
If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email, as we receive many phone calls.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!
