Taco: 4 y/o neutered male yellow Lab, 75 lbs
Background:
Taco was purchased from an AKC licensed breeder in Sacramento and was living the good life on a ranch in Washington state. His owner died and the owner’s adult children who live in the Bay Area took Taco in. They quickly realized that they could not provide the kind of life that a young active Labrador needs and surrendered him in hope of giving Taco a higher quality of life.
Taco’s foster says:
Taco is a sunshine-loving, big-hearted boy still learning what it means to be a house dog — and making real progress! He came to us from an acreage where he roamed freely, so leash manners and basic commands are newer concepts for him. He is already picking up "sit" and "come" and will thrive with a patient, consistent adopter excited to continue his training journey.
Taco is surprisingly well-mannered indoors — fully housebroken, will stand by the door when he needs to go out, and settles into his kennel willingly with a couple of treats. He is a world-class snuggler who will shower you with kisses and occasionally forget he is not a lap dog, but is equally happy to wander off and nap on his own. He has been known to relocate a shoe or slipper (not chew it!) and has occasionally counter surfed. He will get on the furniture but he responds well to "off."
A good walk in the morning and evening keeps Taco happy and calm — a great fit for a moderately active family. He loves soaking up sun on the patio, is an excellent and quiet car companion, and is quite the TV critic when a dog appears on screen. Not a chow hound (rare for a Lab!), he won't pester you for meals — though he will politely remind you if dinner is running late. He does have opinions about his training treats, but cheese, chicken, and apple slices have all earned his enthusiastic seal of approval. He has a deep bark he reserves for delivery people, wildlife, and — most passionately — squirrels. A secure 6-foot fence is an absolute must. Give this boy a sunny yard and a loving family, and Taco will reward you tenfold.
Taco's Rescue Rep says:
Taco is a really awesome dog! He’d be a great fit for an active family who will enjoy playing and training with him. We’re looking for a home with a securely fenced yard that gives him some space and room to run. He will gladly take on the job of squirrel patrol.
Taco is friendly with other dogs and has lived with a female dog. Not good for a home with cats or rabbits, and not a good fit for apartment/condo living.
Medical Information:
Taco is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and has a recent negative heartworm test.

In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Taco.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
