Savannah - Labrador Retriever and Shepherd Dog for Adoption in Pilot Point, Texas

SAVANNAH

Labrador Retriever, Shepherd
🇺🇸
Pilot Point, Texas
August 9th
female, medium, young

DESCRIPTION

Meet Savannah! The first thing you want to know about this amazing girl is that she has a heart that lives for affection. She is a master snuggler and will eat up every bit of attention you give her.

The second thing you want to know about her is that she LOVES to play. So, a home with another female dog around her size
would be ideal OR, a home with an active family.

Third: Savannah is defensive/protective around new people and more so around mid-sized to larger dogs. We have repeatedly introduced her to about 11 different dogs of all sizes. Small dogs are never an issue.

If they are her size or larger, they meet outside in front yard and then we take them on a walk together. Within about 15 to 20 minutes she realizes they are not a threat and then she wants to play with them.

When we first started this process, she was much more reactive. Surely she was just scared and bullied in the past to exhibit behaviors like this. Time and trust has made it much easier to introduce her to other larger dogs.

Her best friend is no longer the humans fostering her. It is their large dog. They are inseparable and play off and on all day.

HER STORY

A kind person who is now her foster saw Savannah searching for food in the high weeds along highway 82, six miles from Gainesville, TX. She looked
pregnant or maybe had puppies already. The lady who saw her made a U-turn, bought some food at a gas station across the street then took the food to a roadside park next to the weeds. She came and ate and drank from the bowls of water that were left for her.

This went on about every other day. She would eat / drink but not come close or get in the car. Finally she visited one day and Savannah jumped in her car.

Despite many searches, including two where her finder took Savannah to the same spot where she was found, there were no puppies. Turns out, per a Facebook notification, she was originally dumped in a Walmart parking lot six miles away. So odds are someone kept the puppies and dumped her, or the puppies may have been let loose or adopted out.

Her finder did everything possible to find them. Savannah did not seem distraught about losing puppies though so more than likely they were old enough to be on their own. She has since been spayed and no longer lactating with a flat tummy. Poor Savannah was in rough shape when found, but her finder has had her fully vetted and she is in great health now.

NOTE: This dog is located in Texas, but she can be easily adopted from anywhere in the US. You can meet her via video call to see if she's the right fit for you. We can transport her to you via a partner company that specializes in rescue pet transport. Sadly, Texas is forced to euthanize about 100,000 animals annually in shelters due to too many animals and not enough demand for pets. Hence we network many adoptable dogs across the country where there is greater adoption demand. Transport costs about $250 depending on your location and a health certificate required for transport across state lines costs about $100. Hence with adoption fee, it will be about $550 to get this dog to you, but trust us, this dog is worth it.
