Some lucky person is going to find a loyal, loving friend when they choose to adopt Orion!
Orion is around 5 years old and weighs about 70 pounds. He is just the sweetest boy. Although he bears some scars from his life prior to rescue, he loves everyone he meets and is kind, gentle, and has a very quiet demeanor.
Orion is perfect in a crate, completely house trained, and enjoys going on walks. His biggest flaw is that he would like to spend a good bit of his day curled up in your lap. He is usually following his people throughout the house hoping for a pet or a loving word. Orion craves human attention so much.
Orion loves stuffed animals and wants to have a stuffed animal with him at all times. Unfortunately, he is fostered in a home where the other dogs like to shred them so they are in short supply. Being resourceful, Orion has taken to carrying pillows around which is slightly frowned upon but in a home where stuffies are safe, he will be very happy to just have those, and the pillows will be safe!
Orion is extremely good with all kinds of dogs. He doesnt react even when a grumpy dog growls or snaps at him. When out walking, he is completely non-reactive to other dogs in the neighborhood. Orion is extremely quiet when he was found, he was wearing a shock collar so that may be why he never barks. He enjoys playing tug of war with one of his foster siblings, but he is not a high energy dog. He mostly wants to soak up any attention he can get. Orion has not been around cats.
Orion is a great car rider; he sits quietly and looks reflectively out the window. It is easy to forget he is even in the car. Currently he sleeps in a crate at night but would make a nice bed partner. When his people leave the house, he is crated but that is primarily so that Orion and the other foster dog dont get too rambunctious. He hasnt been destructive at all.
Sadly, Orion must have suffered tremendously from untreated ear infections for years. He has scarring on his ears, and they have thickened and his ear canals are narrow. His ears are very manageable, but they do need cleaning and occasionally medicating.
Orion was most likely surviving on trash for a while. Early on, every trash can he passed on walks he would try to investigate. Now that he isnt hungry and has let his past go, he no longer does that. He would also try to check out counter tops but that has stopped too. He recently had a foreign object removed from his side and he took it like a champ! Even when he had to wear his recovery shirt! It is hard to imagine the life he led before being rescued but he is so grateful to have a safe, loving environment.
Orions calm nature makes him a nice match for people of all ages and living situations. He just asks for a nice stuffed toy to carry around and a welcoming lap!
Orion will be available for adoption in RI on, or after, July 17th.
