GRAY — 1 year old, 50 lbs, Labradoodle
Gray is a Labradoodle who, sadly, was failed terribly by people during the first year of his life.
We learned about Gray when he was living outside, forgotten and chained up. His coat was filthy and severely matted, and his body was absolutely covered in fleas and ticks. We have rescued many neglected dogs, but the number of ticks on Gray was something we had rarely seen. He needed repeated treatments because the infestation was so severe.
Thankfully, we were able to get Gray out of those conditions. His painful, dirty coat was shaved off, he was bathed, treated, and finally given the care he had been missing for so long.
And underneath all that neglect was the sweetest boy.
Gray is affectionate, gentle, and friendly. He does well with other dogs and is also friendly with cats. After everything people allowed him to endure, he still wants to be close to them and to be loved.
Because Gray experienced hunger and food deprivation, food became an extremely valuable resource to him. He should be fed separately from other dogs. This behavior is directed toward other dogs around food, not toward people. He does not guard his food from humans.
It makes sense that a dog who once didn’t know when his next meal would come might be afraid of losing it again. He simply needs a family willing to understand where he came from and give him the security and consistency he never had.
Gray has already left the chain behind. Now he needs someone to show him what the rest of his life was supposed to look like.
