Dexter is a 2 year old, 55-pound Pit Bull. The only problem is... nobody ever told Dexter that he’s a Pit Bull.

In his own mind, Dexter is approximately the size of a tiny mouse. A very worried little mouse who is still trying to figure out why the world is so big, so loud, and sometimes so scary.

He may look strong and confident in his pictures, but underneath those muscles is an incredibly sensitive, shy boy who needs patience more than anything else.
Dexter lives with other dogs and does well sharing his home with them. He may bark when he sees unfamiliar dogs, and we are still unsure about cats. He is crate trained and behaves very well in his crate.

Walks can sometimes be overwhelming for him. When Dexter becomes frightened or overly excited, he can suddenly pull or make a quick movement without realizing that all 55 pounds of him are attached to the other end of the leash. He isn’t trying to hurt anyone — sometimes his body simply moves faster than his worried little brain can process what is happening.

Children make him nervous as well, so we believe Dexter would be happiest in a calm adult home.

What Dexter really needs is someone patient. Someone who won’t expect him to be brave on day one. Someone who will give him time, consistency, and the chance to discover that the world isn’t quite as frightening as he thinks it is.
Because somewhere inside this big, handsome Pit Bull is a tiny scared mouse who would really like to become somebody’s very loved dog.
