* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org. * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 18th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.
All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.
Some people build sandcastles on vacation. We think you should just adopt one instead.
Meet SandCastle, affectionately known as Sandy, a 2–3 year old Terrier mix who weighs just 10 pounds. Unlike the sandcastles you spent hours building as a kid, this one won't wash away with the tide. She's here to stay...hopefully on your couch.
Sandy has mastered the fine art of balance. She enjoys a good neighborhood stroll, but she also considers professional lounging to be an Olympic sport. If your perfect Saturday involves a morning walk followed by an afternoon on the couch binge-watching your favorite show, congratulations...you've just described Sandy's dream day.
Her typical routine is refreshingly easy. She wakes up around 7:00–7:30 a.m., heads outside for a potty break, enjoys breakfast (although she's polite enough not to inhale it like it's her last meal), and then heads out for a walk. She walks beautifully on leash and is happy to explore the neighborhood at whatever pace you'd like. Once she's had her exercise, she's perfectly content to curl up beside you while you work from home, relax on the couch, or simply supervise your daily activities from a cozy spot nearby.
Sandy isn't what we'd call clingy...she's more of a thoughtful companion. She loves being near her person and followed her foster mom around like a tiny little shadow when she first arrived. Over time, she's become wonderfully confident and knows when it's time to give you space. If you're busy folding laundry or making dinner, she'll happily nap nearby until you're available for more head scratches.
Speaking of head scratches...those happen to be one of her favorite things. Give Sandy a few scratches behind the ears and she'll happily repay you with sweet little kisses. It's a pretty fantastic return on investment.
Evenings are just as relaxed. Dinner is around 5:30 or 6:00 p.m., followed by another neighborhood walk, a little television time with the family, one last potty break, and then she's happy to settle into her crate for the night.
Sandy has proven herself to be an easy roommate. She's completely housetrained, sleeps quietly in her crate, can be left home alone without any drama, and isn't interested in barking, chewing, digging, or redecorating your house with shredded pillows. Honestly, she's almost suspiciously well-behaved.
She has met dogs big and small and has done wonderfully with everyone. While she doesn't live with children, her foster believes she'd do well with gentle, respectful kids. Outdoor cats, however...let's just say Sandy finds them fascinating and would be very interested in introducing herself if given the opportunity.
One of our favorite Sandy stories happened when her foster family was packing for a trip. As soon as the suitcase was open and filled with clothes, Sandy quietly climbed inside, curled up on top of everything, and made it abundantly clear that she believed she had received an invitation. You can't blame a girl for trying.
If you're looking for a dog who needs constant entertainment or endless games of fetch, Sandy will politely decline. If you're looking for a best friend who enjoys walks, loves people, gives sweet kisses, keeps you company while you work, and believes life is simply better when you're together, you've found her.
After all, every great home deserves a SandCastle.
