Meet sweet Honcho, an almost 5 year old male Irishdoodle (Irish Setter and Poodle mix) who is in an IDOG foster home in Baldwin, Maryland.
FAST FACTS ABOUT HONCHO:
*AGE: almost 5 years old (birthdate: October 2021)
*WEIGHT: 70 lbs.
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required. Honcho will need daily exercise & play time to burn his energy. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set him up for success.
*COAT TYPE: He has a soft curly low-shedding coat. Honcho will need regular brushing and grooming to prevent matting every 8-12 weeks (approximately $120/groom). His hair was just groomed after he came into his foster home.
*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy, loves people and gets very excited to meet kids and other dogs, sometimes takes a bit of time to warm up to new adults entering the home.
*DOGS: Honcho has been introduced to the resident Doodles in his foster home. Honcho is very content without another dog nearby, but would like a family that is home more often than not if he will be the only dog. He likes to play fetch with squeaky toys one on one. He loves people, kids, and other dogs!
*CATS: unknown; he has had no exposure to cats in his foster home.
*KIDS: His foster has two small boys (3 & 6 years old); he is playful with them.
*CAR: Does great in the car, but does not like to jump in and insists on being picked up and won’t jump in independently.
.
*CRATE: He does not need a crate; he is left loose and does just fine. He sleeps on a dog bed at night in the foster’s home at night.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! He has had no accidents in the house and will go outside.
*LEASH: Great on leash, gets excited when he sees it.
*VET: Very nervous at the vet but feels safe being close to his people. He tried to hide under the seat near his foster mom.
*VETTING: Honcho is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies), dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative.
*GROOMING: Will require regular brushing, which he does not seem to mind. Did great at the groomer getting a trim. Was a great boy!
MORE DETAILS ABOUT HONCHO:
Honcho is an almost 5 year old male Irishdoodle who was surrendered to IDOG by his family who loved him very much. Her owners had to begin going back to the office for work and felt it was not fair for Honcho to be left alone for long hours.
He would do fine as the only dog in his new home; and he would be happy to have another dog to keep him company. He loves to be by your side, would be a perfect companion for someone that works from home and wants company.
He is very food-motivated and loves treats. He knows basic commands such as sit and stay. He is a friendly and playful spirit!
Honcho enjoys staying close to you and loves to lean against you for a doggy hug or to scratch his head. He will likely be at your feet or by your side as much as allowed. He is very playful, especially in the morning and wants to run outside with the resident Doodles or play fetch.
We feel the ideal type of home for Honcho is one where:
-He could be the only dog if he isn’t left alone at home for long by himself, or would do well with a doggy companion
-He gets his daily exercise, and someone to play with him.
-Ideally someone that is home more often than not, as he loves company.
-Someone that is looking for a shadow and someone to love all day.
-A family that will take him places with them
-An active lifestyle

Activities he enjoys:
**Following his people around

**Being outside with people or dogs
A few ‘needs work’ items for Honcho:
-Being outside independently, he only likes the outdoors if people/dogs are with him. In the past he only took leash walks and didn’t have a fence, so he’s getting used to that freedom.
-Being more inviting of new people entering the home, he gets a bit timid and takes time to warm up to some adults (mostly males)

ADOPTION FEE: $575
ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.
