Meet Sweet Klout: a 5 year old male 55 lb. Standard Poodle who is in an IDOG foster home in Houston, Texas.
FAST FACTS about KLOUT:
*AGE: 5 years old (born May 2021)
*WEIGHT: 55 lbs.
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required as he loves to run freely when he wants. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed.
*COAT TYPE: Curly Poodle coat that will require regular brushing/grooming. Grooming costs are around $120/grooming session and he needs to be groomed every 8 weeks or so depending upon how long his coat is kept.
*ENERGY LEVEL: Pretty laid back. He's not super hyper, so running around in the backyard with the other dogs has been plenty for him over here. He would love to go for daily walks too.
*DOGS: Yes!! He's done great with all the dogs in his foster home - small to large sized.
*CATS: unknown; he has had no exposure to cats while in his foster home.
*KIDS: no kids in the house, but we expect he would do fine. He was good with the child in his prior home.
*CAR: he does fine in the car. We were told he got car sick, but we haven't witnessed that yet on the few car rides he's taken.
*CRATE: he is crate trained and no problem getting him to go in his crate to sleep at night and when his foster family isn't home. We think he'd love to sleep in the bed with his owners if allowed. He doesn't love the crate during the day and would much rather be out and about snuggling with his family.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes, but he will not let you know when he needs to go out. If he's got an upset stomach, he will just go in his kennel or house (right by back door).
*LEASH: he does pretty well walking on a leash. He can pull a bit if he sees something of interest like a squirrel.
*AT THE VET: He is nervous at the vet, but did fine with them once he got some treats.
*WITH GROOMING: ok with grooming!
*VETTING: Klout is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. His fecal and heartworm tests were negative.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT KLOUT:
Klout is an amazing 5 year old male Standard Poodle who was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who loved him very much. He was surrendered because they couldn't meet his needs and felt he deserved more; they were going back to school full-time and he would be left alone all day and he thrives when someone is home more frequently.
He is a very sweet and loving, affectionate, people-oriented dog with a clingy personality and some anxiety, especially when left alone. He thrives on companionship and does best in a home where someone is around most of the day.
He has a clingy/Velcro personality and prefers to be near his person most of the time. He is playful and very happy, especially when greeting people. He does have some anxiety, particularly when left alone for long periods, and would do best in a home where someone is around most of the day. He thrives in a calm, patient, and attentive environment.
He may initially bark when meeting strangers due to fear, but he will sniff them and then want them to pet him. He is used to having a lot of companionship and prefers not to be alone for long periods. He loves plush toys (especially lamb chop), enjoys being outside and sunbathing, and likes to stay close by and relax near his person. He thrives in a calm, patient environment with consistent routines.
Klout has a wonky walk/gait. We did hip x-rays and there was no evidence of hip dysplasia so it may just be the way he grew. There doesn't appear to be any pain and there are no issues with him running and playing. He jumps up the stairs oddly.
His foster family says he is very polite around food, waits to be invited on the couch and LOVES to be on your lap. He knows sit and lay down too.
IDEAL TYPE OF HOME:
Klout will need a home that is patient. He is a sweet soul, and he is pretty unsure of new things. He lived as an only dog, but has acclimated to a house full of other dogs. Klout would do best in a home where his humans are home more than gone. He wants to be right there with you watching TV or whatever you might be doing.
He does bark when he hears strange noises so a single-family home would be best for him.
He is unsure of everything and he will give a cry out if someone unexpectedly touches or bumps him (dogs or humans). He's gotten better over here over the weeks, so I would expect him to probably have a similar decompression period moving to another home.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.
