Meet our husky girl Lucy Van Pelt!
If you're looking for a cuddly co-pilot, look no further than Lucy Van Pelt. True to her name, she's a strong, intelligent gal with plenty of personality and a heart of gold.
Her foster family says "She is the fifth husky our family has fostered and by far the smartest!" With her piercing blue eyes, she might look like she's judging you, but she is actually an absolute love bug who is deeply devoted to her pack.
At 4 years old and 45 lbs, Lucy is incredibly smart and highly treat-motivated; after just a week of obedience training, she has already shown remarkable results and is eager to keep learning. Folks will also love to know that she is already house-trained, microchipped, spayed, and fully vaccinated.
Lucy comes from an unfortunate background - she was surrendered to an open intake municipal shelter because her family couldn't manage a skin condition, and sadly she went onto the shelter's at-risk euthanasia list. So she sat there in the shelter, waiting for her forever home, only to be met with a deadline - when we saw her sweet face, we had to jump in and pull her. A loyal foster family who has helped us with a few different dogs jumped at the opportunity to give her a new chance at life.
Lucy's skin and scabs are healing perfectly - we have moved her to healthy foods and she is thriving. Lucy is a healthy eater who loves fresh snacks like apples, cucumbers, and crunchy broccoli stems.
True to her husky roots, she has a beautifully vocal personality and will let out a howl if you're eating something delicious without sharing or if her dinner is taking too long. However, she is a polite hostess who doesn't bark at visitors. She is also described as a "quick learner" who is "devoted to her pack, including my older dog".
To keep her happy and content, Lucy thrives on a structured routine that includes two 45-minute walks a day alongside a 30-minute exercise session for running, fetching, or playing. She is fantastic at pacing herself, though; during quiet hours, she happily hangs out on her bed or sits on the deck watching the squirrels. For afternoon entertainment, she loves working on chew toys or enjoying frozen treats like banana slices frozen in water.
Lucy is great with both dogs (living with a foster sibling) and most likely cats (has made initial introductions), making her a wonderful fit for a multi-pet home. She would do best in a work-from-home environment or in a household with other dogs to keep her company during the day. Because she is so focused and such a remarkably quick learner, Lucy has incredible potential to adapt beautifully and bring a lifetime of love to her forever home.
