A Little Snowy History
Sno Cone came to DPS from a shelter very thin and under the weather. Even when she felt her worst, she was gentle and affectionate. Now that she’s feeling better, her foster family is getting to know a sweet, stately puppy with a playful side and a lovely independent streak. At just 5–6 months old, Snowy has plenty of growing left to do, so adopters should be ready for a large dog.
Her Kind of Day
Snowy wakes around 7:30 a.m. If she’s up before her foster family, she waits quietly in her space until someone comes to let her out. After a potty break, she enthusiastically wolfs down breakfast. Her day is a comfortable mix of playing outside with her foster sibling Coco, relaxing in the sun, entertaining herself with toys and chews, and taking plenty of naps. Dinner is around 5:30 p.m., and bedtime is about 10.
Snowy has her own area with a bed and toys, and she genuinely loves it. Give her a stuffed Kong when the family goes out, and she settles in contentedly. She also prefers sleeping in her own space rather than upstairs with the other dogs. She sleeps through the night without accidents and is housetrained; if she needs to go out, she gives a little low whine.
Sweetness, with a Side of Independence
Snowy loves her people, especially when they offer pets and belly rubs. Sit beside her on her bed and she’ll rest her head in your lap for attention. She’s also happy to play with a favorite toy or settle down for a nap while you do your own thing.
One evening, her foster came home after a long day and lay down on the couch. Snowy quietly climbed up, stretched out along her back, and rested her head on her neck as if to say, “I get it.” For a puppy who still has growing to do, she can already make a remarkably good couch companion.
Friends and New Adventures
Snowy enjoys playing with her foster family’s big dog, while their small dog prefers to watch the action. She hasn’t been around cats or children in her foster home. Because she was quarantined while sick, her world has only recently begun to expand.
On her first neighborhood walk, Snowy needed a treat to feel comfortable putting on the leash; until then, she had mostly worn one for vet visits. Once underway, she enjoyed a leisurely sniff walk. She paused to take in unfamiliar sounds, then carried on without pulling, chasing, or barking. She’s also still figuring out long sets of stairs—and occasionally those long puppy legs.
Puppy Things to Know
Snowy’s coat has shed at different rates while she’s been recovering, so adopters should expect a shedding coat and regular brushing. She’s teething and needs appropriate chews and supervision around tempting household items. She and Coco may also have collaborated on a backyard excavation project, though neither has confessed. Snowy responds well to redirection and rarely barks.
Sno Cone is a gentle, affectionate young dog who can enjoy a good romp, then settle happily in her own space. She’s ready for a family that will help her keep growing stronger, explore the world at her pace, and make room for a very large puppy on the couch.
