Velma appears to be a Great Dane, though we can't say for certain whether she's full-blooded or a mix. Whatever her DNA says, she certainly has the classic Great Dane look, complete with long legs, a regal presence, and a heart as big as her size.

Velma was found as a stray before making her way into our rescue. Somewhere along the way, someone cropped her ears, but they now rest softly against her head, giving her a unique look that only adds to her charm.

Despite her impressive size and deep, booming bark, Velma is an incredibly sweet, low-energy companion. She's happiest lounging nearby, keeping you company, and soaking up the comforts of home. If you've ever wanted a dog the size of a small horse with the personality of a couch potato, Velma is your girl.

One of Velma's best qualities is her wonderful house manners. She is house-trained and settles into a home routine beautifully. She also walks through doorways without issue, though indoor staircases can still be a little intimidating for her. With patience, encouragement, and a little practice, she's continuing to build her confidence.

Velma is what we lovingly call a "Velcro dog." She stays glued to her foster's hip and simply wants to be wherever her people are. She would thrive in a home where she can be treated like the oversized baby she believes she is. While she does well with other dogs and enjoys their company, people are her favorite. She doesn't enjoy being left outside by herself and would much rather be indoors, following you from room to room, supervising your day, or curling up nearby for a nap.

Velma enjoys the company of other dogs, especially puppies and smaller dogs. She prefers calm, respectful canine companions and isn't a fan of loud or overly pushy dogs that invade her personal space. Her laid-back personality makes her a wonderful match for a peaceful home.

When Velma entered our program, she tested positive for heartworms. She has completed nearly all of her treatment and is now in the final stage of recovery. She is currently under temporary exercise restrictions while she finishes healing, and her adopter will simply need to follow their veterinarian's recommendations until she's officially cleared.

Velma is fully vetted, spayed, and ready to find a family that will love her just as she is. Whether she's a full Great Dane or a Great Dane mix, one thing is certain—she embodies everything people love about the breed: gentle, loyal, affectionate, and wonderfully goofy.
