Yup, it's true that Finnigan is one of those medium sized goldens - the kind that everyone falls for because they are the perfect size and they have the word 'golden' in their description. Finnigan is the same but different in that he lived tied up 24/7, alone and hungry until he was A. discovered at 4 years old, and B. taken in by animal care. While this boy looks like a golden and has the heart of a golden, he is looking for someone who will leave the golden folklore behind and open their heart to him. Finnigan is looking for someone to see him for who he is and fall specifically for who he is.
This sweetie pie has been in a busy foster home with other northerns for about two months getting to understand the lay of the land where people love you and care for you, and where dogs teach you. He adores his foster mum and anywhere she is, he is. To show his affection, he will lie up tight against her back if it's bedtime, and always lie on the dog bed right beside her chair during the day. He will give love licks and when he's overflowing with appreciation, he will give hand nibbles. He is fabulous offleash and has the kind of recall where he will stop mid flight at a full run to respond. This is an indication of how hard he wants to do right by his person.
Finnigan is new to expectations and he is continuing to learn what works and what doesn't work for both him and his foster. He likes to barge out of doors, in through doors. This doesn't work for his foster. He likes to run at dogs to greet them loudly and physically. This doesn't work for his foster. His foster wants to help him love men as much as he loves women. This doesn't work all the time for Finnigan. His foster doesn't love his alarm bark. This they can kind of agree on and Finnigan is doing better. What they both can agree on is that Finnigan loves attention, loves pats, loves offleash walks, is fabulous in the car, is super with cats and dogs (after his initial rude greetings), and is quiet in the house when he has exercised.
Finnigan is a 45 lb work in progress. To anyone in his inner circle, he's a joy with lots of love to give and like any of us, some quirks as well. Like it's just going to take him 3 days to warm up to his new peeps when he moves on. Then he's going to throw in the towel because he needs those pats and he wants to hear his name called. This was exactly what happened when he went to dog camp but man, did he ever think it was fun when he did open up.
To meet Finnigan where he is at, he is looking for a rural home where he can follow his person around as they putter outside. He is certified THE BEST sidekick in the world. He's sooooo dependable outside that a fence is not necessary and he won't venture far just in case he misses you coming out to hang with him. He would love a dog sister or brother to play with but he doesn't need one as he is not shy or uncomfortable. When you're a dog, it's just nice to have dog companionship so you can speak dog and do dog, but ultimately, his person is his priority.
Finnigan is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated (DAPP and rabies). His adoption fee is $750.
