Toothless — She Never Knew What a Home Felt Like. She Is Ready to Find Out.
Toothless is about a year old, a German Shepherd mix, all black and absolutely stunning, and she came to us having likely never known any of this. Not a couch. Not a warm place to sleep. Not someone scratching behind her ears and actually meaning it. The concept of being loved is genuinely new to her, and she is working through what that means with the kind of tentative, cautious hope that is almost impossible to watch without feeling it somewhere deep in your chest.
She is figuring it out though. And when it clicks — and it does click, fully and completely — she goes from guarded to glued in what feels like an instant. Five minutes of skittishness, a little time to assess whether you are safe, and then suddenly she is a pile of warm, trusting mush who has decided you are her person and intends to remain in your immediate vicinity indefinitely. Carry her around? She will allow it. She will, in fact, require it. She is a giant baby in the body of a stunning shepherd mix and she has decided that is not something to be embarrassed about.
She is goofy and brilliant and probably a little too smart for everyone's good, which means she needs a home that will engage that brain and give her something to work with. She has the potential to do well with dogs, cats, and kids — she just needs someone who understands her, moves at her pace, and does not mistake her initial hesitation for anything other than what it is: a dog who was never shown how to trust and is genuinely trying to learn.
Toothless does not need a perfect home. She needs a present one. Someone with patience, consistency, and a willingness to be the person who shows her what love actually feels like on a regular, reliable basis — because once she knows, she will spend the rest of her life giving it back with everything she has.
She is not just looking for a home. She is looking for her person. There is a difference, and she already knows it.
Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home.
