Meet Sammy — the oversized shepherd with a heart of gold and absolutely no idea how big he is.

At 70–80 pounds and around 3–5 years old, Sammy is basically a small horse disguised as a German Shepherd mix. He’s tall, handsome, playful, and carries himself like he pays the mortgage… until he gets excited and turns into a giant goofball.

Sammy is a very good dog—but he’s definitely still working on his résumé in the “manners” department. He’ll need continued training, especially with leash walking and basic commands. Right now, he believes every walk is a competitive pulling event, and he’s aiming for first place.

Inside the home, Sammy does settle down after a bit, but he’ll need supervision because he has a habit of marking indoors. The good news? He responds well to correction—tell him “no,” and he gets the message. He’s crate trained and keeps his crate clean, so he clearly understands boundaries… he just likes to test them occasionally.

Because of his size and energy, Sammy would do best in a home with a secure fenced yard where he can spend time outside during the day while you’re away. A yard is not optional—this big boy needs room to stretch those legs and patrol his kingdom.

Sammy would thrive with school-aged kids or older, simply because his enthusiasm can accidentally send smaller humans into low orbit.

As an adoption fee-based rescue, we do not operate on monthly support. Our adoption fee of $250 covers transport, which is arranged post-adoption, and is tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
