Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Say his name three times and a snuggly, sassy little gremlin might appear on your couch.
This 2-year-old mutt has a playful side, and some very strong opinions. He's currently working toward a healthier weight-but his personality will remain supersized.
Beetlejuice enjoys snuggles, playtime, and being your favorite little weirdo. What he doesn't enjoy? Being thrown into a crowd of unfamiliar dogs and expected to mingle. He needs slow, thoughtful introductions, supervision, and clear boundaries. He has been practicing coexistence with another small dog, but he will need someone who will respect his limits and help him build skills through patient training. A home without small children would be the best fit.
Now for the part more important than his handsome face: his medical history and ongoing needs. Beetlejuice has been neutered and undergone BOAS surgery to improve his airway. At the shelter, he was dragging his back legs, raising concern for possible IVDD. However, he walked out with his foster and has continued walking well. That's encouraging, but it isn't a guarantee against future problems and his adopter should be well versed on the potential progression of IVDD.
We expect his cute face to attract plenty of attention, but this is not a "cute dog, easy commitment" situation. His adopter needs to understand the significant health concerns associated with French bulldogs (and whatever else he may be mixed with), be prepared for potentially substantial veterinary expenses, and commit to weight management and ongoing care. Please apply for the whole Beetlejuice-medical history, boundaries, quirks, and all-not just his photo.
His ideal match? Someone who takes his care seriously, doesn't take his spooky little personality too seriously, and has room for a lovable work in progress.
