Schottky is a cute and sweet little guy who simply wants to be loved! He has a good amount of energy and sometimes runs to find his favorite place in the house, wiggling his little body and jumping up once he gets there, then curls up and sleeps soundly for chunks of time. He loves cuddling or being petted.
Being with his person is important for Schottky, as he readjusts to finding a safe home where he can trust that he will be loved and not be left behind. He is a little anxious and his next person should be someone who is patient and will be there for him. Because he has some separation anxiety, he prefers to have his person nearby as much as possible. It is important that he be properly secured in his crate when left home alone, as he can get out if it isn't. At night, he has no problem sleeping in the crate when allowed to be near his person.
Although he seems interested in meeting new people, he is a little skittish and introductions should be done slowly. Once introduced, he warms up to them and loves being petted. Schottky is house trained and has not had any accidents in the house, but should be taken out on schedule. He is making great progress walking on leash and now enjoys his walks and moving at a leisurely pace, checking things out, and sometimes lying down to sun himself.
He met one large Labrador retriever and went right up to him to sniff him out. He has also seen several small dogs at a short distance and his body is relaxed, tail wagging and seems eager to meet. His current foster home does not have a resident dog, but it's possible that having a canine sibling will help with Schottky's confidence.
The ideal home for him will be a quiet adult household with a fenced yard where he can enjoy the outdoors, and someone is at home much of the time. This boy has a lot of love and cuddles to give and he will make the sweetest, loving companion for the right person.
