FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

Meet FireCracker! She and her littermates are an accidental litter of Aussie / Dachshund mixes - with some other breeds too. We did DNA but it won't be back for a couple weeks.
Cracker's foster mom says: FireCracker is just that, a firecracker! :) She might be party bunny, hopping around as she runs and plays. She can start off a little shy, she warms up quickly and is all about the cuddles. They are all very smart. Crating overnight is going well, as soon as I open the kennel door, they run out to the back door. They even are using one of the doggy doors. They love sniffing around and putting everything in their mouths - go figure, puppies! Playing is a priority too.
We are working on more photos. :)
At not quite 10 weeks old, they weigh 7# - so we are guessing by parents and a previous litter, they will be medium in size, 30-45#.
Currently in foster homes, they are learning all things puppy. This puppy is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated to appropriate age. They will need more puppy shots at 12 weeks, and at 16 weeks.
Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! They will cry in their crate, might need a potty break in the middle of the night. They will pee and poop in your house - your fault ;) - and will chew on your shoes, your childrens toys and maybe even the furniture. But... once transitioned into your home, will be life long companions!
The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.
Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.
Adoptions typically take place in Arlington and they are ready for homes now! If you are planning on a vacation or have an issue that may delay your ability to pick up your puppy within a few days of approval, please let us know in advance.
Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.
Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sundays to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.
Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We dont ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
