Meet Serenity!
Some dogs earn their name.
Serenity is one of them.
This 12.5-year-old, 12-pound wire-haired Dachshund who came to us as one of 42 dogs, and despite everything she's experienced—including recently having an eye removed—she greets each day with quiet joy and an endless capacity for love. She's healing beautifully from her eye enucleation and hasn't let it slow her down one bit.
If Serenity could choose how to spend every day, she'd choose your lap.
She's the definition of a love bug. Every morning when her foster opens her crate, Serenity runs over with kisses, her tail wagging a mile a minute, ready for belly rubs and back scratches before anything else. Once she's decided you're her person, she'll happily follow you from room to room, always wanting to be close. Even when you think she's fast asleep, she'll pop up the moment you move—just to make sure she doesn't miss out on being by your side.
Serenity is wonderfully curious, too. She enjoys leisurely walks, taking her time to stop and observe the world around her. Everything is still new, and she likes to investigate at her own pace. Because she only has vision in one eye and is mostly deaf, she can startle if approached from her blind side, so she'll do best with a family that understands her unique needs and gives her a gentle heads-up before reaching for her.
She is house trained, puppy pad trained, crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and is about as easygoing as they come. She rarely barks and has no resource guarding or behavioral concerns. She's simply a sweet senior who wants to love and be loved.
One of the most endearing things about Serenity is her quiet determination. While she's a little hesitant leaving the apartment for walks, once she builds up the confidence to step outside, she's happy to explore. Watching her overcome those little moments of uncertainty is incredibly rewarding.
If your idea of the perfect companion is a little shadow who adores cuddles, gives the sweetest kisses, and will happily spend the day by your side, Serenity is waiting to meet you.
