Rufus - Chow Chow Dog for Adoption in Houston, Texas

Meet Rufus — 100 lbs of Big Baby! Rufus may be a 100-lb Chow Mix, but his foster says he's basically a big, shy couch potato. He has that classic Chow independence — he's perfectly happy doing his own thing, hanging out with the other dogs, and deciding for himself when he'd like some attention. But call him over for pets? He'll happily come see you.

And this big boy has some seriously impressive manners!
- AMAZING on leash — intuitive, thoughtful, and great at navigating gates and obstacles
- Dog friendly with chill dogs — he can get overwhelmed by pushy dogs or too much activity
- Very cat safe so far — little interest in the resident cat and no prey-drive reaction to zoomies
- Very chill energy — mostly a couch potato and may even be a good apartment candidate
- Sweet and sensitive — looks to his person for reassurance when he feels overwhelmed
- Quiet guy — rarely barks and even his big-dog bark is surprisingly muffled
- 5 years old
- Heartworm positive — treatment is covered by the rescue

Rufus isn't looking to be the life of the party. He'd rather have a calm environment, a few good walks, some cozy couch time, and a person who understands that sometimes a Chow just wants to hang out near you instead of being all over you.

And honestly? There is something pretty special about a giant dog who, when he escaped his kennel once, didn't go looking for trouble... He simply laid against the door where his foster was and waited.

Big. Quiet. Independent. A little shy. And apparently just a big baby underneath all that fluff.
Rufus is ready for his person.

**Rufus is located in Canyon Lake, TX. Paid transport can be arranged. Transport costs range from $200-400.**

The Chow Chow, a distinctive breed known for its lion like mane and unique blue black tongue, originated in China over 2,000 years ago. These aloof yet loyal dogs are known for their independent nature, dignified demeanor, and protective instincts. Chow Chows require early socialization and training to thrive in a family setting, as they can be stubborn and territorial. With a dense double coat that requires regular grooming and a history as ancient guardians and hunting companions, the Chow Chow remains a fascinating and enigmatic breed in the canine world.
