Rex - Chihuahua and Rat Terrier Dog for Adoption in Northbrook, Illinois

Hi there! Rex is my name and adventure is my game! At 8 years old, I know how to be in a house, relax on the couch, ask for treats, and sit like a good boy. I get along well with my canine foster siblings who are just my size. I especially like to roam and romp in the yard with my Chihuahua foster sister. My absolute favorite pastimes are to follow my foster mom around like her little shadow and to sit in the kitchen and ask for treats. I have been known to play with stuffed animals twice my size, to carry around my chew stick like it's going out of style, and to join in all the barking when there are sounds at the front door. All this activity sometimes tuckers me out, and I will have to curl up on the couch next to my favorite person.

Like any shelter pup, it does take me a little while to adjust to a new home and new people. I am a communicative little guy, though I am not always sure how to ask for what I want. Sometimes the best way I know how is to give you my puppy dog eyes, put my paws up on you, let out a little grumble, or maybe a bark or two. One thing is for sure, though-- once I trust you and decide that you are my person, I want to be with you all the time! It makes me sad to see you leave the house and I would do best with somebody who is home more often than not.

And speaking of home-- I would be happiest with people and one or more other small dogs. I might possibly be your one and only pup if you are home all of the time. However, I must be in a feline-free zone. Cats are not my style!

One more thing. As I get to know my new family, I will need some help knowing where the back door is. Keeping me on a schedule and coming outside to spend time with me will be a great way for us to bond! Plus you will get to see me wag my cute little tail at the happiness of being outdoors!
