Meet Colby, a very sweet, gentle, perfect little man! Colby is an adorable Chiweenie (Dachshund / Chihuahua mix) who is just 14 lbs. He was estimated by the shelter in New Mexico that we rescued him from to be around 10 years old, but their age estimates are based solely on the condition of a dogs teeth. Based on Colby's personality, energy, and overall demeanor, both we and his foster believe he is likely closer to 8 years old. The worst part of rescue is never knowing their age for sure! But it's worth it when you're rescuing a dog who needs you.
Colby is a really, really, really good dog. He is incredibly sweet, gentle, and easygoing. He loves people and is really social and friendly. He has never met a stranger and truly doesn't have a mean bone in his body.
Colby is also wonderful with other dogs! In fact, having another dog in his forever home is a requirement for Colby. He originally came into the New Mexico shelter with another dog, and it was very clear that the two had been living together and were bonded. Unfortunately, that shelter did not believe in keeping bonded pairs together and separated them. Because we know how much Colby enjoys and relies on doggy friendship, we want his next home to include another friendly dog so he can have the companionship he is happiest with.
From Colby's foster:
"We realllyyyyy love Colby. He is really, really easy to love! He is the best mannered dog that I have fostered in a long time. It's rare that I have a male dog in my house who doesn't mark, but Colby is 1000% potty trained and trustworthy! He is so so so so incredibly sweet. Like he really just melts my heart with how sweet he is! He is snuggly, loves belly rubs, and lays his head on me (or lays fully on me) any time I sit by him. He is gentle and perfect! Such a distinguished little gentleman. He is great with my dogs and snuggles my dogs, too! He eats with my dogs without issues, and never tries to take from their bowls. He is crate trained, but he really doesn't need a crate. He is trustworthy to leave loose in the home with my dogs when we leave. He loves my husband just as much as he loves me! He is really a winner. Great great dog. I haven't seen him with cats or kids, but I have no doubt he would be totally fine. He is so mellow and easy going."
Colby is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is neutered.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out 400 dogs each year.
Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
