Queen Lee ACCT-A-251850 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Queen Lee must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by SATURDAY, JUNE 27TH at 10AM. Should Queen Lee's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Queen Lee is a 2-year-old Cattle Dog mix who came to ACCT Philly as a stray on June 2nd. When she arrived, she was extremely frightened and unsure of her surroundings. Since then, she has been taking small but meaningful steps forward, showing that beneath her fear is a gentle dog who simply needs time, patience, and understanding.
Queen Lee is a food-motivated girl who does best when allowed to move at her own pace. Staff and volunteers have found that a calm, low-pressure approach helps her feel safe enough to engage. While she can be hesitant with direct interaction, she readily accepts treats, appears housetrained, and has shown that she enjoys spending time outside. Volunteers note that she especially perks up in the play yard, where she can relax, explore, and enjoy herself away from the stress of the kennel environment.
Queen Lee has also done well meeting other dogs. She has participated in multiple dog introductions and playgroup assessments, consistently displaying tolerant, appropriate behavior. She has been comfortable greeting dogs, moving away when she needs space, and engaging in gentle social interactions. Other dogs may help boost her confidence as she continues to adjust.
Throughout her stay, Queen Lee has remained easy to walk and generally cooperative despite her fear. She has allowed handling, veterinary care, and routine shelter procedures, often choosing avoidance over confrontation when she feels uncomfortable. To support her progress, she has been started on behavior medication to help reduce her anxiety while staff and volunteers continue working to build her confidence.
Queen Lee is looking for a rescue partner or experienced adopter who can provide the quiet environment, patience, and decompression time she needs to truly flourish. She is looking for a home where any children are over the age of 13. Her progress in the shelter shows that she wants to trust; she just needs someone willing to let her get there on her own timeline. Due to her behavioral concerns and ongoing need for specialized placement, Queen Lee is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per staff 6/25: Can be available for adoption to an experienced adopter with fearful dogs. She is a flight risk, may need medications from a vet or vet behaviorist to help reduce anxiety, home should be prepared to provide her stability, routine and many, many months of slow acclimation. Kids no younger than 13.
Per volunteer 6/24: Medium energy. Had a blast in yard. Seems housetrained.
Per volunteer 6/23: Medium energy. Needs to be out more, loves the play yard.
Per staff 6/23: Low energy.
Per staff 6/21: Low-medium energy. Good on walk and on leash.
Per staff 6/19, playgroup: Steerable 4/5 water. Did not test can due to fear. Good greetings, moved away on her own. Engaged in some push/pull play.
Per staff 6/16: Low-medium energy. Mildly shy. Perks up outside in play yard.
Per volunteer 6/15: Low energy. Mild issues on leash, moderately shy. Easy walker. She was not interested in coming to me. I threw treats on ground, she ate them. She did not want to take from my hand.
Per staff 6/12: Medium energy. Good on walk and on leash.
Per staff 6/11:
Kennel Presentation: Pressed to the back of the crate, avoiding eye contact. Tolerant and stayed in place when leashing, quiet. Once leashed walked right out on a loose leash, low tail, shake off.
Leash Skills: Walked on a loose leash next to staff; when bending at her level attempting to engage and pet her, moves towards the end of the leash with a tucked tail and lip licks.
Sociability: Avoidant, tucked tail when staff attempted to interact with her. When just coexisting, her tail would be down and she would be closer in staff's space, sniffing the ground at times. Peed and pooped outside.
Play: Toys were present in the yard, she ignored them.
Dog Interaction: Met Oz. Tolerant of being sniffed, stiff, sat down. Did not attempt to interact with him.
Return to Kennel: Easy, walked in, hunched body head low when leash was slowly removed.
Color Level: Remain at blue.
Recommendations and considerations: Remain rescue only, begin behavior meds to see if it helps reduce her fear.
Per staff 6/11: Nurse let me know that Queen Lee was low growling in her crate as they were standing in front of it while preparing medications. She did eat her meds, they had to step away for her to stop low growling.
Per staff 6/9: Low energy. Moderate issues getting out of kennel. Moderately shy.
Per staff 6/7: Laying on her bed when I approached, ears back, wide soft eyes. Eating the treats that landed near her. When I opened the door she did not get up, offered more treats and she slowly got up. Attempted treat lure to leash, she moved away and said back down on the bed, tail low, ears back. Able to leash her on her bed and once leashed came right out. Walked with tail tightly tucked, ears back, eyes darting. Outside tail tightly tucked, head low, ears back, tense body, skin crawled when I touched her gently. Met Zippy, tail tucked, tense body, moving away. Walked back in with the same body language as walking out. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily.
Per staff 6/4: Low energy. Mild issues getting out of kennel. Moderately shy.
Per staff 6/3: Met Puddle. Tolerant, unfazed, backed up when face to face, tail came up from low/slightly tucked and moved fluidly.
Per staff 6/3:
Kennel Presentation: Ears forward, wide eyes/darting and tail down when approached. Tossed a few treats in and she ate them.
Leash Skills: When the door was opened she retreated to the back side of her kennel. Door was closed and more treats tossed in to lure her to the front side to close the guillotine door. When the leash was presented again she did a low grumble and whine. Leash was placed on her bed and a few reps of putting food in the loop were done. Was able to leash up with a treat lure. Came out of kennel slowly, ears forward, tail down and hypervigilant.
Sociability: Brought into the eval room where other members of the behavior team were present. She slowly walked around the room with tense body, tail down and scanning the room. She continued to eat and took food from hand. Staff were able to scan her for a chip (none found). Tense/tolerant of light pets on her side and chest.
Dog Interaction: Met Puddle.
Return to Kennel: Slip clipped and she went right into kennel.
Color Level: Blue.
Per staff 6/3: For intake exam, vaccines and collar placed, tucked tail, lip licks, tolerant, less is more restraint best, consistently tried to increase distance when wanting it to stop. Overall very tolerant!
Per staff 6/2: Asked to assist to get off the APO truck. In the back, still and quiet, tense body. Tossed in food, sniffed then ignored. APO moved the truck so when we opened the door again, she had eaten multiple pieces of the cheese. Used snappy snare without incident to leash, then got another leash on, walked from truck to kennel with tucked tail, ears pasted back. Hopped in kennel easy and tolerant to remove both equipment. Put in meds in cream cheese, began licking immediately
Per staff 6/2: Dog picked up from dog trap at location. Dog is scared, attempted to leash in cage, barking bit leash, had no room to loop around neck, has to use control stick, dog bit on stick, rolled around a few times, had to force walk to truck.
MEDICAL NOTES:
Queen Lee is currently being treated for pneumovirus, which is a type of "doggy cold." It is contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals.
