There are smart dogs... and then there is Axel, a what-are-you-planning-and-how-did-you-already-figure-it-out level intellect housed inside a very handsome Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is 50% brilliance, 50% charm, and 100% convinced you are capable of becoming a better person under his guidance.

Axel doesn't just learn things. He understands them. Sit, stay, routines, emotional nuance, the subtle art of "if I stare at you long enough, you will absolutely hand over that snack" - mastered. Fully mastered. This is a dog who would run a small startup if he had thumbs.

And yet... despite his obvious superiority... he remains humble. Generous, even. Axel shares his food. Voluntarily. No notes. No side-eye. Just pure, unbothered abundance. It's giving enlightened king.

Socially, Axel is thriving. Dog-friendly? Completely. Kid-friendly? Yes, and likely to become their favorite family member within 48 hours. Cats? He respectfully declines that particular genre of roommate. We love a dog with boundaries. He also is heartworm positive but he has started treatment and Take Paws Rescue will complete the treatment.

Personality-wise, Axel is a perfectly calibrated mix of playful and affectionate. He can turn a backyard into a comedy show, then immediately pivot into full cuddle mode like he's clocking in for his second job: Professional Heart Healer. His humor isn't loud-it's clever. Observational. The kind that sneaks up on you and then suddenly you're laughing alone in your kitchen while he watches, pleased with himself.

And visually? Please. Axel is a looker. The kind of dog people pretend they're not staring at. The kind of dog that makes strangers say, "Wait... whose dog is that?" as if you might say "no one's" and they can just... take him.

All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.

***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
