Meet Maddie - Your New Best Friend!
Beautiful, sweet, incredibly smart, cuddly, playful, and full of personality - this wonderful 8-month-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix is the kind of dog who can quickly become a beloved member of your family.
One of Maddie's absolute favorite things in the world is being close to her people. If you're sitting down, there's a very good chance she'd like to be right next to you, soaking up the love and giving plenty of cuddles in return. She is incredibly affectionate and friendly with people and has such a sweet, charming personality.
And for a puppy her age, she's remarkably well-behaved. She is completely potty-trained and has never had an accident in the house. She doesn't try to steal your food, doesn't get into things around the house, and generally seems to understand that the house is a place to relax and enjoy being with her humans. She's also doing wonderfully with crate-training. She may give a couple of quiet little whines when she first goes in, but she settles down quickly.
As you would expect from a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, she's very intelligent and eager to learn (She "sits" so well!) She picks things up quickly and is already learning how much fun puzzle toys and games like fetch can be. She's energetic and fun-loving and would thrive with a family who enjoys playing, exploring, and giving her opportunities to use both her body and her brilliant little brain.
Maddie's also an absolute character. She has all sorts of adorable Border Collie-style vocalizations and sometimes makes the cutest little noises while playing with her squeaky ball. She loves tossing her toys around, and when it's time to sleep, she has some very important relaxing to do - often stretching her front and back legs completely out like the queen of the castle, or rolling onto her back for a full-on belly-up snooze.
She enjoys heavier chew toys and durable Kong-style balls. Plush toys, on the other hand, don't tend to last very long around her - she has discovered that they're apparently much more fun when they're taken apart!
When it comes to other dogs, she can be a little shy at first. She's definitely curious about them, though, and sometimes initiates play once she feels comfortable. But she is never aggressive toward other dogs (or anyone else). She simply needs a little time to get comfortable and figure out her new friends.
She can get especially excited around young children, which we suspect is because she sees them as potential playmates. A family with older children, or one that is comfortable helping her learn appropriate excitement around little ones, could be a wonderful fit.
Maddie also can be shy about getting into the car. But once she's in, she's a perfectly calm passenger.
Above all, this girl is just incredibly lovable and cuddly. She's beautiful on the outside, but it's her affectionate nature, intelligence, goofy personality, and desire to be with her people that really make her special.
If you're looking for a dog who will happily join you for playtime, keep you entertained with her silly antics, and then curl up beside you when it's time to relax, she may be your girl.
She has so much love to give and is ready to find the family she can call her own.
