The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is an ancient, sturdy herding dog known as a "big dog in a small package". Standing 10.5 - 12.5 inches tall and weighing 25 - 38 pounds, they are heavily boned, powerful working dogs with distinct long bodies, short legs and a fluffy foxlike tail. Cardigans are farm dogs; they were bred to herd cattle, chase off predators, hunt vermin, and protect the property. Cardigans possess incredible problem-solving skills, independence, and have an occasional stubborn streak. They need an owner who provides clear, consistent boundaries and positive, engaging training. It is also important to note that due to their build they require proper supportive lifting, stairs/ramps to get to up/down safely, to be discouraged from high jumps, and to make sure they don’t become overweight, as these will put major strain on their spine and joints.
Pumpkin is a male, 12-week old Cardigan Welsh Corgi from the Fall Litter. We believe Pumpkin is going through a teething dip causing his ears to be down at this time. This happens sometimes from ages 3-5 months when their adult teeth are growing the most.
This gentle boy loves to give sweet kisses. He’s very friendly, easy going and loves meeting new people. Pumpkin has a very curious nature and likes to explore new things. He can have selective hearing sometimes, especially when he’s scrounging for something to chew on. (the training of “drop it” will be an important one!) Luckily, he is food motivated which makes him a fast learner. He enjoys cuddling when he’s tired, receiving lots of pets, and will occasionally roll over for belly rubs. Pumpkin loves playing with other dogs and all types of toys.
What’s Needed in their Forever Homes
These puppies will require owners with base breed, working or herding dog experience. Because these puppies are an active working breed going through typical puppy mouthiness and herding behaviors, we are asking for a home without toddlers or small children ages 7 year and under, or individuals with fragile skin or balance issues. Their alert barking also makes shared-wall living challenging without consistent training. These pups can be timid in unfamiliar environments and will need early socialization outside the home once they are UTD on vaccines. They need families committed to positive-reinforcement training, mental enrichment, and continual socialization to help them grow into the polite, confident adult dogs they are destined to be!
Adoption fee is $450. He is fixed, chipped, dewormed, flea treated, started on vaccines, had a wellness exam and comes with a free wellness exam at Guardian vet care for the first 60 days.
