Lieutenant Dan's story almost ended before it had a chance to begin. At just a few months old, he found himself in a crowded Texas shelter with a injured leg after he jumped out of someone's arms and broke his metacarpals. He only had 12 hours left before he was scheduled to be euthanized for space. We couldn't let that happen. Week after week, he bravely endured cast changes while his leg healed, and today you'd never know what he overcame. His leg is strong, and although that foot points ever so slightly outward, it doesn't slow him down one bit.
His personality? Pure joy.
Lieutenant Dan is one of those dogs who wakes up every morning convinced it's going to be the best day ever. He absolutely loves playing with other dogs and has lived happily with cats. If there's a game to be played, he's all in.
He's also convinced that personal space is wildly overrated.
At bedtime, expect all 35 pounds of him to somehow end up draped across you. If you're relaxing on the couch, don't be surprised when he climbs up behind you and settles across the back of the couch with his head resting on your shoulder like an oversized cat.
And if he decides it's time to play fetch...well...you're playing fetch.
One of his favorite tricks is bringing you a ball when he wants your attention. If you happen to ignore him, he'll simply get more creative. The other day, after being completely ignored, he climbed onto the back of the couch, gently rested his head on my shoulder, dropped the ball right on top of me, and looked at me with the most serious expression that clearly said, "Excuse me...I believe it's time for you to throw this."
Mission accomplished.
Lieutenant Dan is house-trained, affectionate, hilarious, and has the kind of personality that makes everyone smile. He's the perfect mix of playful companion and professional cuddle bug.
After everything he's overcome, Lieutenant Dan is ready for the only thing missing from his story—a family to call his own.
If you're looking for a loyal best friend who will keep you laughing, keep your lap warm, and remind you every day that resilience comes with a wagging tail, Lieutenant Dan is waiting to meet you.
