Juniper, affectionately known as "JuJu," is a beautiful, deeply loyal, and deeply complex girl looking for a very specific type of forever home. The best way to describe Juniper is that she is running "cat software in dog hardware." She is an independent, sun-worshipping girl with a huge heart for her chosen person, but she requires a specialized environment to help her feel safe.
The Good Stuff:
Solar Powered: Juniper is a true sun girlie. In the winter, you will find her posted up on the back of the couch catching rays. In the summer, she loves being outside, but strictly to sleep in the sun.
Adventure Buddy: She absolutely loves car rides and going on walks, and she is always down for a quiet adventure. She is great on walks both solo and with other dogs.
Smart and Snuggly: Despite being mostly blind and deaf, she knows touch commands for "sit" and "down." She loves to snuggle up in bed or on the couch with her person. She is also crate-trained, loves sleeping in her crate, and will often tuck herself in at night.
Stranger Friendly: She is friendly to new people, provided she is allowed to approach them first to sniff and say hello on her own terms.
Dog Friendly: She currently has a best friend named Artie. Because of her vision loss, she can sometimes lose track of him during play, but she does wonderfully with gentle, understanding dog companions.
Morning Bird: She is incredibly playful in the mornings and tends to get a little grumpier in the evenings when she is ready to wind down.
Her Ideal Home:
Juniper's world is quiet and dark, which means she can startle easily and sometimes operates in "fear mode." She is currently being rehomed because she struggles with resource guarding, specifically around food and her primary caregiver. Because she views her favorite person as her greatest resource, she will fiercely guard them, which has led to aggressive outbursts toward other members of the household.
For this reason, Juniper’s absolute ideal home is with a single adult or a very calm couple. Because her outbursts can be intense, she needs a home free of children. She needs a grounded, steady, and patient handler to help her navigate her outbursts through positive reinforcement training.
Juniper is a perfect dog in so many ways. She just needs a quiet, patient, and highly structured environment where she, and her humans, can live completely fear-free.
