Meet Skye! (case #21305)

Sweet, gentle, and ready to find her person, Skye is an approximately 3-year-old Border Collie mix who came to us as a stray. While we don’t know much about her past, we do know that Skye loves people and absolutely enjoys being shown a little attention.

Skye is a sensitive girl who can be submissive when she’s unsure. You may even see her roll over to offer her belly when she’s interacting with people—a sweet sign that she’s looking for reassurance and trust. She’s learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place, and she’ll thrive with someone who is patient, kind, and willing to let her confidence grow at her own pace.

On walks, Skye does fairly well on leash, although she has a habit of leaning into your legs for reassurance, so her new family will want to help her learn some safer walking skills. She already knows “sit” and would love to continue learning! Positive-reinforcement training will be especially important for Skye, helping her build confidence while creating a strong and trusting bond with her family.

When meeting other dogs, Skye was interested but quite unsure. She showed very submissive body language and seemed more comfortable keeping some distance. For now, she would likely be happiest as the only dog in her home. With gentle, controlled exposure to friendly, well-mannered dogs, she can continue building her confidence and learning that canine friends can be a positive experience.

Skye’s ideal home will be a quieter, patient environment where she can enjoy structure, routine, and lots of positive experiences. She’ll need a family who understands that confidence doesn’t happen overnight and who will celebrate her little victories along the way. With patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement, Skye has so much potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

One important part of Skye’s medical history: she has tested positive for Lyme disease, but she is currently healthy and showing no symptoms. Many dogs who test positive never develop illness. Her adopter should share this history with their veterinarian, maintain regular wellness exams, and monitor for possible signs such as lameness, joint pain, fever, or decreased energy. With appropriate veterinary care and monitoring, Skye can continue to enjoy a happy and active life.
