Benny Boy - Border Collie and Labrador Retriever Dog for Adoption in Corpus Christi, Texas

Say hello to Benny, a happy-go-lucky 4.5 year old Border Collie with a heart as big as his smile! Benny is the perfect mix of sweet, smart, and playful, always ready for a walk with friends or a cuddle on the couch after a fun day.

This handsome boy is a true social butterfly- he LOVES people. Benny is very affectionate and loves to be near people. He is confident and welcoming when meeting new people! He greets everyone with happy tail wags. All it takes is a glance in his direction and he is already wagging his tail. Benny's expressive eyes and wagging tail say it all, he just wants to love and be loved.

Benny is the perfect mix of calm and energetic. He gets excited to go on adventures and loves meeting new people but he also enjoys some cuddles on the couch. Benny is a great running buddy and is used to going on jogs with his foster mom. He would be a great hiking partner and loves exploring new trails! Benny is playful and LOVES toys! You can usually find him making a collection of all of the toys in the house, playing with them for some time, and then napping near his prized collection. Benny is easygoing and happy to just be around people and get pets. He loves lounging on the couch, watching the outdoor world through the patio door, and is always happy to be loved on.

Benny is smart and excited to learn commands and tricks. He picked up "sit" and "paw" in the first day! In addition, he now knows "find it," "come," and "wait." He is extremely treat-motivated, a plus for training! Benny is potty trained and hasn't had a single accident in his foster home! He is also already kennel trained and would not mind a home with someone that works outside of the home. He rests perfectly in his kennel while his foster is away.

Although Benny was found with another dog and has had multiple successful meet and greets with other dogs, Benny does seem to be selective with new doggie friends and a home without other pets would be ideal. He is able to be walked near other dogs, and is even currently being fostered with multiple dogs in which he goes on walks with and can be in the same room if the other pup is kenneled, but he is fearful when other dogs are in his face. While he may be reactive to a dog in his face, he does not seek to hurt new dogs and does not lunge when seeing other dogs, making it easy to still go for public outings. Benny is frequently walked with and around other dogs as we work through his fear and show him that dogs are friends. He has seen a trainer that believes that he can eventually work his way up to living with another dog in the future.

Benny is a smart, medium energy dog that would do best in a home that provides him with both physical and mental stimulation. We think he would do best in a home without young children, as he is still learning not to jump or paw people when he is excited.

Dreaming of Furever Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue that adopts cats and dogs from South Texas to the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, and the East Coast. The adoption process consists of an application, reference checks, phone interview, and video chat with the pet and foster parent!

The adoption fee of $550 includes spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, DHPP and booster, and Bordatella), microchip with free lifetime registration, deworming, transport, heartworm test, heartworm and flea prevention during the pet's time in our program as well as 2 free months of heartworm and flea prevention to be sent in their adoption packet!

We are volunteers with a passion to reduce the stray population and unnecessary euthanasia in South Texas. According to Shelter Animals Count, an almost 100,000 cats and dogs were euthanized in Texas shelters in 2024. By transporting our adoptable pets to areas with fewer unwanted pets, they have a better chance of quickly finding loving homes, while also freeing up space in Texas shelters and giving more local animals a chance at life.
