Meet Cooper!
This handsome boy has been waiting nearly two months for a forever home and is hoping that home could be with you!
Cooper is approximately 1 year old and appears to be fully grown, weighing around 40 lbs. He may fill out a little more, but we do not anticipate him exceeding 50 lbs. Without a DNA test, we cannot confirm his breed, though his medical records list him as a Shepherd mix. Based on his unique markings, we suspect he may have some Heeler or Pointer in the mixbut your guess is as good as ours!
Unfortunately, we do not know much about Cooper's past. He was found as a stray wandering the streets of Texas and was picked up by animal control in April 2026. Since then, he has been living in a shelter environment while waiting for someone to give him a second chance.
Despite his uncertain beginnings, Cooper has quickly won over shelter staff and volunteers. He has been described as happy, playful, dog-friendly, and incredibly affectionate. He walks beautifully on a leash and has a heart that's far bigger than his 40-pound frame.
Like most young dogs, Cooper is still learning the ropes. He is continuing to work on house training, basic manners, and polite greetings. His future family should be prepared for the typical energy and enthusiasm that comes with an adolescent dog, along with the patience and consistency needed to help him succeed. With structure, guidance, and love, Cooper has all the potential to become a wonderful lifelong companion.
Cooper has done very well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a playful canine friend in his new home, though it is not a requirement. He has not been tested with cats, so a cat-free home may be best unless his adopters are experienced with slow, proper introductions. He has had limited exposure to children while in the shelter, so we recommend a home with respectful, dog-savvy kids who understand how to appropriately interact with dogs, especially one with Cooper's size and youthful enthusiasm.
Cooper would thrive in a home that can provide both physical exercise and mental enrichment. A securely fenced yard would be a wonderful outlet for playtime and zoomies, and due to his activity level, a house setting is preferred over apartment living. He is a smart, loving young dog who simply needs someone willing to invest in him and give him the opportunity he deserves. (We are open to those without fences and live in an apt/condo)
The shelter where Cooper is currently residing is severely overcrowded, and dogs like him face uncertain futures without committed adopters stepping forward. He is ready to leave shelter life behind and start the next chapter of his journey with a family of his own.
Health Information:
Cooper is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, and maintained on monthly preventatives.
Important Information:
All of our dogs, including Cooper, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption process is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet Cooper in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after adoption is completed.
