Mr. Storm - Black Labrador Retriever Dog for Adoption in Newport, Washington

Mr. Storm is a handsome puppy whose legs are still learning what a straight line looks like. And ears that can pick up communications from outer space. Both ears and legs seem to continue to grow so who knows where it will all end! Storm is about 60 pounds and will remind you of that when it’s playtime. Despite being gentle, he’s still a giant puppy and can be hilariously clumsy at times.

The past few weeks with his foster family have been about becoming socially confident and trusting in his peers and handler. Storm is friendly to all, but nervous when greeting newbies so needs a calm introduction. Storm can put on an intimidating bluff bark display when newcomers approach but that never lasts more than a quick sniff before the tail starts to wag. So far, he’s had limited exposure to cats, but his non-reaction tells us he’s mostly impartial. However, he has shown some serious chase drive with small wild critters so introduction to any small animals should be closely monitored.

We recommend Storm be with a family willing to train and exercise him to keep his rambunctious puppy energy to a minimum. He currently knows “sit” and is working on other commands. He is treat-motivated and usually attempts about 4 tricks in a row before checking if any will be rewarded. He would be a candidate for a home with older children but will require some supervision around small kids to avoid rough play mishaps.

Storm comes from a large litter of eight puppies and this is his first time in ten months where he’s not had the company of his siblings. It’s been a bit of a change for him, learning to be independent and look to his human for guidance and comfort. He has definitely come onto his own and is currently enjoying adventures, exploring the back country trails with his foster family in Bellingham, WA. He would love to continue life with an equally outdoorsy type person/family if possible. He will be a big boy and has the ability to cover some ground, so would love to be someone’s right hand man, er dog, while exploring life in the PNW. He’s neutered and vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped, so ready for his forever person to step up!
