Katie is a 10-week-old Black Lab mix with a story that could have ended very differently.
Katie and her brother Buddy were found abandoned in a bag beside a Salvation Army donation drop box at a shopping center in Atascocita, Texas. Thankfully, a past Freedom Street Rescue adopter discovered the puppies, brought them home, cleaned them up, fed them, and got them to the vet first thing the next morning. All five puppies were healthy and ready for the second chance they deserved.
Today, Katie is thriving and full of life.
Katie was the biggest puppy in the litter and quickly became the leader of the group. She is confident, curious, independent, and always ready for her next adventure. She loves meeting new people and dogs, greeting everyone with a happy wagging tail. Katie is also incredibly smart and already catching onto routines quickly.
While she has an adventurous spirit, Katie has an equally sweet side. One of her favorite things is curling up on a child’s lap for a nap. She was a huge hit during Memorial Day festivities and happily soaked up attention from kids of all ages.
Katie appears to be mostly Black Lab, though she is currently smaller than a typical Lab puppy her age. She has a tiny white patch on her chest that makes her even more adorable. Based on her size and paws, we estimate she will be around 40–60 pounds fully grown.
Like a true Lab, Katie absolutely loves water. Bath time, kiddie pools, splashing around, and chasing balls through the water are some of her favorite activities.
At just 10 weeks old on May 25th, Katie already sleeps over 7 hours overnight in her crate and is doing wonderfully with crate training. She currently weighs 9.4 pounds.
Katie is playful, affectionate, intelligent, and ready to bring endless love and joy to her forever family.
