Sweet retriever mix Abel needs a foster home or a forever home- foster to adopt would be perfect!
Abel is a handsome 2-year-old retriever mix who charmed everyone at the Duplin County shelter. When a family came to meet him, they fell in love—and even brought their own dog to the shelter for a meet-and-greet. The two dogs hit it off very well and enjoyed playing together. The family said they wanted to adopt Abel, so the shelter had him neutered in preparation for his new home. But Abel waited...and waited...and they never came back for him.
Sadly, his time at the shelter eventually ran out. Abel was facing euthanasia because the shelter ran out of space, so we pulled him to safety on his last day. Now Abel has a second chance to find the family who will truly commit to him and give him the loving home he deserves.
Abel enjoys the company of other dogs, and the shelter manager described him as submissive and calm. He reportedly walks well on a leash and has the sweet, easygoing personality that will make him a wonderful addition to a loving home.
