Meet Derby
Derby is an approximately 3-year-old pup weighing 30.6 pounds who spent months surviving on his own as a stray before finally finding safety in rescue. While the world still feels a little overwhelming to him at times, Derby is already showing what a gentle and sweet soul he truly is.
Derby can be a bit nervous, especially in new situations, and he trembles some during car rides, but he has shown absolutely no aggression. He simply needs patience, reassurance, and a calm environment while he continues learning that he is safe and cared for. Because of his history as a long-term stray, Derby will require a very secure yard to help keep him safe as he adjusts to life in a home.
So far, Derby enjoys the company of other dogs, but we do not yet have information on how he would do with children.
Derby does not seem interested in cats and has been easygoing overall as he settles into foster care. He was neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated on May 13th. Derby is heartworm negative but did test positive for Lyme disease and is currently being treated.
Derby is now with an SBR foster in St. Louis while he waits to travel to Seattle, hopefully in early June. He is expected to be available for adoption after June 10th.
As Derby continues to decompress and settle into foster care, we are learning more about his personality, confidence, and ideal home. We'll continue updating his profile as we get to know this deserving boy better.
We're excited to watch Derby leave survival mode behind and discover what it means to truly be loved.
Please note: Our rescue is foster-based and cannot hold dogs for future adoption due to travel, home renovations, or schedule changes. Adopters must be prepared to welcome their new companion within a reasonable timeframe.
We do our best to ensure every dog is as healthy and prepared as possible, but we ask adopters to understand that rescue dogs may need time to decompress and adjust. They are not perfect they are simply in need of patience, understanding, and a second chance.
